Cookies advice

What is a cookie?
A cookieis aharmless text file that is stored on your browser when you visit basically any web page. Cookiesare useful because they allow the website to remember you when you return to that page. Most people don’t know this, but cookies have been in use for 20 years, since the first browsers for the World Wide Web emerged.

What is a cookie NOT?

A cookie is not a virus, Trojan, worm, spam, or spyware, and it doesn’t open pop-up windows.

What information does a cookiestore?

Cookiesdo not usually store sensitive information about you like credit cards, bank details, photographs, your ID numbers, personal information, etc. The data they store is more technical in nature, such as personal preferences, content personalization, etc.

The web server does not identify you as a person but rather your web browser. In fact, if you usually browse with Internet Explorer and try browsing the same website with Firefox or Chrome, you will see that the website does not realize that you are the same person, because it is identifying the browser, not the person.

What types of cookiesare there?

  • Technical cookies: These are the most basic and allow, among other things, to know whether it’s a human or automated application browsing and when the user browsing is anonymous or a registered user, which are the basic tasks for the operation of any dynamic web.

What are “own” and “third-party” cookies?

“Own” cookies are those generated by the page you are visiting, and “third-party” cookiesare those generated by external services or providers such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc.

What happens if I disable the cookies?

To help you understand the scope of the implications of disabling cookies, we will show you some examples:

  • You won’t be able to share content from that website to Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media network.
  • The website will not be able to adapt its content to your personal preferences, as is often the case with online stores.
  • You won’t be able to access the personal area of that website, such as My Account, My Profile, or My Orders.
  • Online shops: It will be impossible for you to make purchases online. You’ll have to make them over the phone or by visiting the physical store, if there is one near you.
  • You won’t be able to customize your geographic preferences such as time zone, currency, or language.
  • The website will not be able to perform web analytics on visitors and web traffic. This will make it difficult for the website to be competitive.
  • You won’t be able to write anything on the blog, upload photos, post comments, write reviews, or rate content. Also, the web page will not be able to tell whether you are a human or an automated spamming application.
  • Targeted advertising cannot be displayed, which will reduce the site’s advertising revenue.
  • All social networks use cookies, so if you disable them you won’t be able to use any social media network.
